Michael Jackson performs "With A Child's Heart" - Soul Train

Lisa Marie touching words-Heartfelt words

He Knew.

Years ago Michael and I were having a deep conversation about life in general.

I can't recall the exact subject matter but he may have been questioning me about the circumstances of my Fathers Death.

At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, "I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did."

I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that.

14 years later I am sitting here watching on the news an ambulance leaves the driveway of his home, the big gates, the crowds outside the gates, the coverage, the crowds outside the hospital, the Cause of death and what may have led up to it and the memory of this conversation hit me, as did the unstoppable tears.

A predicted ending by him, by loved ones and by me, but what I didn't predict was how much it was going to hurt when it finally happened.

The person I failed to help is being transferred right now to the LA County Coroners office for his Autopsy.

All of my indifference and detachment that I worked so hard to achieve over the years has just gone into the bowels of hell and right now I am gutted.

I am going to say now what I have never said before because I want the truth out there for once.

Our relationship was not "a sham" as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a "Normal life" found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part. Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.

I wanted to "save him" I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened.

His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn't know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then.

At that time, In trying to save him, I almost lost myself.

He was an incredibly dynamic force and power that was not to be underestimated.

When he used it for something good, It was the best and when he used it for something bad, It was really, REALLY bad.

Mediocrity was not a concept that would even for a second enter Michael Jackson's being or actions.

I became very ill and emotionally/ spiritually exhausted in my quest to save him from certain self-destructive behavior and from the awful vampires and leeches he would always manage to magnetize around him.

I was in over my head while trying.

I had my children to care for, I had to make a decision.

The hardest decision I have ever had to make, which was to walk away and let his fate have him, even though I desperately loved him and tried to stop or reverse it somehow.

After the Divorce, I spent a few years obsessing about him and what I could have done different, in regret.

Then I spent some angry years at the whole situation.

At some point, I truly became Indifferent, until now.

As I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watching on the news almost play by play The exact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (A sight I never wanted to see again) just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted.

Any ill experience or words I have felt towards him in the past has just died inside of me along with him.

He was an amazing person and I am lucky to have gotten as close to him as I did and to have had the many experiences and years that we had together.

I desperately hope that he can be relieved from his pain, pressure and turmoil now.

He deserves to be free from all of that and I hope he is in a better place or will be.

I also hope that anyone else who feels they have failed to help him can be set free because he hopefully finally is.

The World is in shock but somehow he knew exactly how his fate would be played out some day more than anyone else knew, and he was right.

I really needed to say this right now, thanks for listening.

Chris Brown

Singer Chris Brown will appear in court Monday as "intense" negotiations continue on a plea deal over his alleged beating of girlfriend Rihanna, a source told the Daily News.

"It's expected to be resolved at some point soon. Rihanna wants it resolved as well," the source said.

Brown, 19, is expected to either plead not guilty to two felony counts stemming from the violent incident or ask to have the arraignment postponed again, the source said.

The R&B star wants to avoid any jail time and doesn't want to plead guilty to the felony criminal threats charge since it would be a "strike" on his record under California's Three Strikes law, the source said.

That leaves the felony assault charge as the area of negotiation between defense lawyer Mark Geragos and prosecutors.

"The arraignment is coming up on Monday, that's all I can tell you," said district attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

Brown was charged with punching, choking and biting his 21-year-old girlfriend in the predawn hours before the Grammy Awards on Feb. 8. He's also accused of threatening to kill her.

Since then, Rihanna and Brown have reunited on both coasts with some sources saying the Barbados-born beauty is not inclined to testify for the prosecution.

"She has no interest in testifying," a source told The News.

President Obama Gives Queen of England an iPod

Barack Obama met the Queen at Buckingham Palace today and gave her a gift of an iPod loaded with video footage and photographs of her 2007 United States visit to Richmond, Jamestown and Williamsburg in Virginia. In return, the Queen gave the President a silver framed signed photograph of herself and the Duke of Edinburgh - apparently a standard present for visiting dignitaries.

It is believed the Queen already has an iPod, a 6GB silver Mini version she is said to have bought in 2005 at the suggestion of Prince Andrew.

UPDATE: Pool reporter Richard Wolf of USA Today says that an Obama aide told him the President also gave the Queen a "rare songbook signed by Richard Rodgers". END UPDATE

Trick Daddy Discusses Living With Lupus on Radio Show

Miami rapper Trick Daddy, born Maurice Young, has just announced that he suffers from the chronic, autoimmune disease lupus.

Trick, who is best known for hits like 'Shut Up' and 'Let's Go,' revealed the upsetting news when he appeared on 'The Rickey Smiley Morning Show' last week to promote the release of his forthcoming autobiography, 'Magic City: Trials of a Native Son.'

"I went to the doctor like 12 years ago," Trick said. "She took all kinds of tests, because I was trying to get rid of what we call dry skin. She did biopsies and blood tests and swab tests. She told me I have lupus...I am allergic highly to the sun, that's my worst enemy. It's like an AK-47 with a double clip on it. I could jeopardize kidney and liver failure from the treatment and the medication."

Lupus causes the immune system to attack the body's own organs and tissues instead of bacteria or viruses. There is no known cause for the disease, which is most common among women, and affects African Americans more often than Caucasians. The symptoms worsen after exposure to sunlight and certain kinds of medication. The disease most recently took the life of celebrated producer James "J Dilla" Yancey.

Though Lupus is deadly, Trick has managed to stay positive, having managed his illness quietly for the past 12 years.

"Remember I came out with the bald head recently? A lot of people joke about it, but I came from so far in the struggle where it don't matter to me," Trick explained. "I learned how to turn my down sides into jokes and get around it. My Mama had eleven children from ten different men. If she was strong enough to live with that, I can live with this."

Halle Berry - Opening Up About Love, Hate & Hollywood Racism

Halle Berry made history as the first African American woman to take home the Academy Award for best actress in a motion picture, and for that reason alone, the former pageant queen's words hold a lot of weight.

In the March edition of Essence magazine, the new mother of 9-month-old daughter Nahla opened up to CNN correspondent Lola Ogunnaike about her current relationship "status," her past romances and her disappointment with Hollywood peers.

Though the Cleveland-born beauty won the coveted award for her performance in the gritty Lee Daniels-produced drama 'Monster's Ball,' she couldn't shake criticism about taking the role, in which she and Billy Bob Thornton had an all-out balls-to-the-walls sex scene.

Angela Bassett, who had been nominated for best actress 10 years prior for the critically acclaimed Tina Tuner biopic 'What's Love Got to Do With It,' famously told Newsweek magazine that she had been offered the lead role of Leticia Musgrove first but turned it down because she "wasn't going to be a prostitute on film."

Other Hollywood notables and industry-goers shared similar reactions to the rawness of the scene.

Berry revealed that she was hurt by the backlash. "I would have rather had them call me up at home and say, 'Halle, what the f--- was that,' as opposed to them airing it publicly," she told Essence. "That was such an important moment for me and to have people attempt to dampen it not only for me, but for all the people who found hope and joy in that moment."

"You find out who your real friends are," she added. "Take mental notes and keep it moving."

And that's not all she had to say about Hollywood.

Regarding racism in Tinseltown, Berry said she believes there are many more opportunities for black actors today and that "things have absolutely gotten better" since her early days on the TV sitcom 'Living Dolls' and being denied a role as a park ranger. "Young black artists have no idea how hard it used to be," she added.
Professionally, she knows hardships -- and also personally.
A hot Halle Berry topic of late is her relationship with 33-year-old model and restaurateur Gabriel Aubry, who is the father of her baby.

The twice-divorced Revlon cosmetics spokeswoman declared that she would not marry again. "I feel more married now than I did in any of my actual marriages," she said about her relationship with Aubry. "We live the truth of that and that's more important than a piece of paper."

She previously signed pieces of paper (aka marriage licenses) with baseball star David Justice and R&B crooner Eric Benet. The 'Strictly Business' star was also reportedly romantically linked to former R&B chart-topper Christopher Williams, soap opera star Shemar Moore and former box-office superstar Wesley Snipes.

Aubry is a stark contrast from her aforementioned mates; they're all black.

But she may not be looking back. "I tried black men. I tried," Berry joked. "I married two black men. You know I tried."

"I don't hold all black males responsible because of the two bad eggs I got," she clarified, possibly contemplating how many of her black male fans consider her a sex symbol. "I even dated black men after my last divorce, but this is just where I found love."

The March issue of Essence magazine is on newsstands now.

Police: Chris Brown Punched Rihanna, Threatened to Kill Her

A detective's notes from the scene of the alleged Rihanna assault reveal disturbing details about what happened between the singer and her boyfriend Chris Brown in the early hours of Feb. 8.

According to a search warrant in the case, Rihanna, 21, read a three-page text message from a woman on Brown's phone, which led to an argument. Brown – who was charged with two felonies Thursday – allegedly tried to force his girlfriend out of the Lamborghini, and hit her head against the passenger window.

Rihanna then "turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand," says the paperwork. "He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand."

According to the detective's notes taken by Det. De Shon Andrew, blood filled Rihanna's mouth. Brown, 19, allegedly told her, "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home. You wait and see!" Rihanna called her assistant and left a message saying, "I am on my way home. Make sure the cops are there when I get there." The police notes say that prompted Brown to reply: "You just did the stupidest thing ever. Now I'm really going to kill you."

The report also says that Brown bit Rihanna and put her in a headlock, and that she almost lost consciousness.

"Brown resumed punching [Rihanna] and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face," according to the notes. "She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown."

Eventually, Rihanna began screaming for help and Brown got out of the car, according to the notes. A nearby resident heard the calls for help and called 911.

Almost three weeks after the incident, the couple reunited in Miami Beach last week.

American Idol Star Mandisa Drops 75 Lbs.

Suffering Simon Cowell's barbs about her weight during season 5's American Idol auditions – he cracked that the show would need a "bigger stage" to accommodate her – was a "worst fear come true" for the singer Mandisa, but that pain was nothing new.

The Grammy-nominated Christian singer's weight battle was borne of early trauma – she was sexually molested as a child and raped at 16. "A lot of girls turn to men to fill that void and some turn to drugs," Mandisa, 32, tells PEOPLE. "I turned to food as my drug of choice."

Her weight left her open to ridicule and health problems. Mandisa recalls her humiliation when she performed a routine with her high-school drill team and a classmate joked that she caused the whole gym to shake. "I still remember that like it was yesterday," she says, adding that she was even denied health insurance because of her weight.

Making a Change
After a visit to Mt. Rushmore last summer that left her so short of breath she had trouble making it to the viewpoint, she set herself a goal to lose 100 lbs. by the March 24 release date of her new album, Freedom, on March 24. "I thought I couldn't get up and sing about freedom when I had been chained for so long," she says.

Following a routine of cardio workouts five days a week, a diet heavy on salads, lean meats and fiber, and counseling to work on her childhood issues, she's dropped more than 75 lbs. "Being able to fit into clothes I couldn't before is great," she says. "To be able to walk into a room and not feel self-conscious, I don't ever remember feeling this way."

She plans to continue her new routine for life but remains realistic. "I want to be healthy, and I believe my body will get to whatever it's supposed to be," she says. "It could be a size 8 – but personally I like a girl with a little meat on her bones! I don't need to look like the models on the magazine covers in order to be beautiful."

American Idol 13

ET was on the red carpet to speak with the remaining "American Idol" contestants Thursday night, but in a surprise move this season the judges let an additional contestant through!

Before the show went off the air on Thursday night, "Idol" judge Simon Cowell made a surprise announcement: "We decided recently we're going to make this a Top 13."

"Making the top 13 is incredible," Michael Sarver tells ET. "Number one the top 13, it's history -- it's never been done before. I think the incredible thing about that is the one person who always slips through the cracks didn't slip through tonight."

"The pressure's definitely on," Adam Lambert says. "But I think once you reach this point of being in the top 13, you've arrived to a certain level. There's almost a sigh of relief as well as the impending pressure weighing on me."

Watch the video to hear how the successful singers feel to be part of the first ever Top 13, and whether they are already getting a taste of stardom by getting recognized on the street.

Contestants Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre and Jorge Nuñez made it to the Top 13 on Wednesday, joining Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen, Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey, Matt Giraud, Anoop Desai, and Adam Lambert.

Chris Brown says he's 'sorry and saddened' about what 'transpired' between him and Rihanna

R&B star Chris Brown broke his silence Sunday, saying he is sorry over his fight with girlfriend Rihanna and will seek counseling.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," Brown said in a statement.

Without discussing the fight, Brown's five-sentence statement conceded that he needs help to deal with the scrap.

"I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones," he said. "I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

Brown, 19, has hired a public relations company that specializes in crisis management to deal with the firestorm of scrutiny over allegations he beat up Rihanna on Feb. 8.

The 20-year-old "Umbrella" singer suffered bruises and a split lip and has not been seen in public since.

Prosecutors are considering filing charges against Brown.

Brown said he hasn't made any statements since the fight and said Web posts that purport to be from him are a pack of lies.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," he said. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say

Usher's wife recovering after cardiac arrest

SAO PAULO — The wife of R&B singer Usher continues to recover in a Sao Paulo hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly before undergoing plastic surgery, the spokeswoman of the doctor who was to perform the procedure said Thursday.

Ellen Dastry, spokeswoman for plastic surgeon Silvio Sterman, says Tameka Raymond checked into the Sao Rafael Hospital last Friday for a "simple liposuction." Dastry said that Raymond suffered a cardiac arrest while being anesthetized for the procedure "but was revived in less than a minute by heart massage." She was then placed in an induced coma before being taken to the intensive-care unit, a procedure Dastry said was "absolutely normal" and performed in order to "avoid unnecessary complications."

Usher was supposed to perform at music mogul Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party last Saturday, but backed out to come to Brazil to be with his wife.

The 30-year-old R&B star and his wife were married in August 2007. They have two young sons, 2-year-old Usher Raymond V and 2-month-old Naveid Ely Raymond.

Chris Brown Arrested for possible assault on Rihanna

Boyfriend arrested for alleged assault on Rihanna

It seems that all is not happy in paradise as Rihanna is revealed to be the victim in the incident that led to Chris Brown being arrested yesterday in Los Angeles.

The alleged attack, which is still shrouded in mystery, meant that both stars missed their performances at last night's Grammy Awards.

LA police have now named Rihanna as the victim in the case after earlier saying that the female victim had "suffered visible injuries".

The couple, who always denied they were an item, apparently got into an argument whist driving around in a rented Lamborghini late on Saturday night.

"The exact charge was criminal threats and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation,” said Police Sgt. Bridgett Pickett.

"There may be domestic violence charges added later, but that will be up to the district attorney’s office."

Brown has been released on $50,000 bail.

Rihanna's publicist said: "Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support."

Playing For Change: Song Around the World "One Love"

"I just smoke Marijuana" Lil Wayne Denies 'Syrup' Addiction, Defends Marijuana Use- This is Ridculous

Kids-please do not follow the example of This Rapper. Say no to all drugs!
During a recent interview with Katie Couric, rapper Lil Wayne denied being addicted to the drug known as "syrup." A mixture of codeine and promethazine, the drug is popular in the South and has been mentioned by rappers such as Three 6 Mafia and UGK.

Wayne denied his addiction to the concoction, but admitted to drinking so much "syrup" during shows and interviews that he suffered from stomach aches.

Not only did the New Orleans rapper admit to sipping syrup, but he defended marijuana, which he claims he uses for medical reasons. "I will stand up for marijuana any day... I'm a rapper. That's who I am, Miss Katie, and I am a gangster and I do what I want. And I love to smoke. And I smoke."Wayne went on to tell Couric that he smokes marijuana to deal with intense headaches (which coincidentally is one of the side effects of abusing codeine). "I have migraines that make me [want to] just kill myself," he said.

Couric also inquired if his drug use might send the wrong message to fans that look up to him. "Never in my life would I ever say, that I ever set out to be an example for people on how to live their lives,' he explained. "If you need an example for how to live then you just shouldn't have been born, straight up."

Yes We Can - Barack Obama Music Video

This Man Is Not the "Black " President, He Is "The U.S. President"- Preachers Argue about Something Else Please- God is a Generaous God ( Love All)

(Jan. 23) - Not everyone was happy with President Barack Obama's nod to nonbelievers and non-Christians in his inaugural address. And some of the stiff criticism about Obama’s religious inclusiveness is coming from African-American Christians who maintain that no, all faiths were actually not created equal.
"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness," the new president said. "We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth," he also said. Nothing too controversial, proclaiming that America's strength lies in its diversity. But between those two statements, the new president got specific: "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and nonbelievers."By mentioning, for the first time in an inaugural address, the 16.1 percent of Americans who check "no"’ when asked about religion, Obama turned it into the most controversial line in his speech -- praised by The New York Times editorial board and cited by some Christians as evidence that he is a heretic, and in his well-spoken way, a serious threat.

My Opinion
Obama's Statement is true. Instead of criticizing, learn the facts.President Barack Obama did what many before him should have done, rightly citing the great diversity of America as part of the nation's great strength, and including 'nonbelievers'’

I personally am a believer in a higher power and in that belief I do not judge. A religious leader should be "open" to all. Not condemn.

She's All Grown Up Now...Catching Up With Keshia Knight-Pulliam

Make no doubt about it; It's Keisha's show now.

The Cosby Show' actress is all grown up and definitely ready to take control of her career.

Since starring as Rudy Huxtable -- the youngest Huxtable child -- in the hit NBC sitcom, 'The Cosby Show,' for eight seasons, actress Keisha Knight Pulliam has done a fine job of making diverse career choices.

Pulliam told BlackVoices.com that she is very happy that she took a break from acting to attend historically black women's college, Spelman College , where she graduated in 2001 with a degree in sociology.

"I think that I am very thankful to have had such a long career. It's a blessing and something very special to me. I took a long break after 'Cosby' to go to college and I don't regret that," says Pulliam.

These days Pulliam's is back on the small screen with a leading role on the hit TBS series, 'Tyler Perry's House of Payne,' an experience that she says shares the same camaraderie as 'Cosby.'

"I said, 'Ok, sure I will come in for ten episodes,' and the storyline was so popular," she revealed. "People just loved the Calvin (played by actor Lance Gross) and Miranda story," so much that it led to her taping an additional 26 episodes of the popular sitcom.

Tyler Perry, the show's creator, has been so impressed with Pulliam that he cast her in his upcoming movie, 'Madea Goes to Jail' as Candace "Candy'" Washington a heroin-addicted prostitute who the pistol-packing main character befriends after both women end up in jail. Derek Luke, Sophia Vergara, 'Doubt's' Viola Davis and David and Tamala Mann also star in the movie.

New R&B Albums: January 2009

What's new in R&B during January 2009? Not a lot. January and July are typically the slowest months of the year for new R&B and Soul music, and it looks like 2009 won't be an exception to that. There's just five 'new' albums coming out, but one is a remix album (Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad - The Remixes), one's a collection of Mariah Carey's best ballad's and one's a live album. So that makes two albums of new material, and of those two, one (Heather Headley's Audience of One), is a Gospel album by an R&B singer. So if you add it all up, there's really just one all-new R&B album: Syleena Johnson's Labor Pains.
